About Convergys
Convergys was founded in 1998 in Cincinnati, OH. They were an information management company that sold customer management products, targeting large corporations. As of 2015, they had approximately 150 locations and held a total of $1.276B in equity. They also staffed about 130,000 employees throughout 33 different countries.
Their product line included self-service and care software tailored to the financial, communications, tech, retail, health, and government industries. The software included billing and business support systems, such as revenue management and telecom.
In 2018, Convergys was acquired by Synnex Corporation, which is a multinational corporation that provides IT services to all sorts of businesses. In short, Synnex is an information technology supply chain company. The acquisition cost Synnex Corporation $2.43 billion in stocks and cash.
Shortly after Convergys’ acquisition by Synnex, Convergys became known as Concentrix. Concentrix was a subsidiary of Synnex until it broke off and became its own independent organization in 2020. Now, Concentrix (formally Convergys) is headquartered in California.
What Convergys Looks Like Today
Today, Convergys looks very different than it did in its inception. It has become much more than a call center. Concentrix focuses on all layers of the customer experience (CX). They focus on strategy, CX consulting and design, digital CX operations, and digital CX technology. Some cutting-edge functions they focus on are cloud engineering, digital engineering, automation, and enterprise modernization.
They serve a wide range of industries: automotive, banking and financial, consumer electronics, energy and public sector, healthcare, insurance, media and communications, retail and ecommerce, tech, travel, tourism, and transportation.
Just this past year, in May 2022, Concentrix announced that they had a definitive agreement to acquire ServiceSource International, Inc. They are a US-based customer experience tech and solutions company that, too, targets businesses. The deal was reportedly worth $131 million.
Concentrix also provides all the benefits you would expect from a large corporation:
- Health Care
- Dental Insurance
- Vision Insurance
- Life Insurance
- 401k
- Paid Time Off
- Stock Options
- Discounts
Concentrix – Convergys Call Center Hiring Process
The hiring process at Convergys (now known as Concentrix) is quite simple, like most hiring processes. Please note that the minimum age of employment at this corporation is 18 years old, so you must be at least 18 years old to apply for a position unless otherwise stated on the application (for example, internships).
Most positions require that you hold a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; however, some positions like the Sales Advisor only require that you hold a high school diploma.
Speaking of sales advisor roles, read up on how to get a job in tech sales if you are curious about the skills needed to succeed in a tech-based sales role.
According to Concentrix’s Indeed page, the first stage in the Convergys call center hiring process is to submit your application. You may have to submit a cover letter along with your resume, depending on the role you are applying for.
In some cases, and for more high-level positions, you may have to take a pre-employment screening test. This screening will ask basic questions to determine if you are eligible to work at Concentrix, as well as to assess your current knowledge in relation to the role.
If your application raises eyebrows, then you will be contacted by a recruiter for a formal interview, which entails normal interview questions. After your first formal interview, you may be asked to complete a second round of interviews. If you make it to the second round, that is a good sign you made a good impression during the first interview, so keep it up!
Once your formal interviews are complete, and if they feel you align with their company values and the role itself, they will extend a job offer. The entire interview process may last several weeks.
Note that you can receive a work-from-home offer or an offer to work at a physical location. This will be disclosed in the actual job description.
Past Employee Insight
This was how the hiring process worked, according to Anna Dimayuga, who used to work for Convergys before they merged with Concentrix,
“I worked there before, and I had a one-day hiring process. First, they gave me pictures and they told me to create stories out of the pictures. I suppose they were trying to assess my skills in the tenses of the verb. They also let me read some tongue twisters. After passing the verbal tests I was asked to take tests on the computer, they had a lot of words that I needed to spell out correctly.
Then there was a listening skill (situational, I needed to anticipate what the customers really wanted based on what they said). I also had to type fast because there was a timer. I needed to type some words, phrases, and sentences within a specific amount of time. A written exam about phones (just in case I would be assigned for technical support) was also taken.
Once I passed all those, I had a mock call, where I had to talk to someone over the phone and we had a conversation where I was the agent and on the other line was the customer. After all those, they gave me another schedule for the Team Leader’s test. I had to rephrase some statements to the satisfaction of the examiner. Once passed, the job order and the training starts.”
Jason Whelan also chimed in, “How competitive is the hiring process at Convergys? It will mainly depend on why type of position you are applying for and the labor pool in your area. Generally speaking, positions such as customer support tend to be easier as they require a large number of employees to fill. Other positions such as team leader or those in the corporate vertical will have a great deal more competition as people within the company will also be applying for them.”
